  • Every time I am in China (at least two to three times a year), I like to purchase a dozen or so bottles straight off a popular retailer’s shop. This is how most consumers purchase and experience wine and that is how I like to sample the wines. While I try to organise a large tasting of the top Chinese wines in all categories ever year, I have always wondered if the samples being sent to me were the same ones being sold off the retail shelves. As most Asian wine consumers know all too well, label integrity is a serious issue in China.

  • Great Value Second Wines

  • This year, there was one theme that kept emerging in my tastings of the 2009 vintage. The wines that stood out as performing far beyond expectations this year were the second wines of the top properties which sell for a fraction of the grand vin.

  • Wrapping Up the 2009 En Primeur: Great Terroir-Driven Vintage

  • Conclusion:

    This vintage is undoubtedly a great year for red wines and for sweet wines. The climatic conditions allowed for incredibly precise expressions of terroir. Starting from July through to harvest in September, there were small spurts of rain but no serious issues of mould and rot.

  • Asian Restaurants in Paris

  •  I have been coming to Paris at least once a year for the past 10 years and noticed a proliferation of Asian restaurants over the past five years. Vietnamese food has always been popular in Paris, encouraged by the local Vietnamese community but there are now many Japanese restaurants as well as Thai restaurants.
