  • 2011 is a vintage for those who prefer elegance and purity over power and concentration. It is the size of the wine that worried some white wine producers – many whites were willowy and gentle with low alcohol and modest acidity levels. This contrasts with the past several vintages – 2010, 2009 and the 2008 – where the overall frame and size of the wine was bigger. With the 2011s now either in bottle or about to be bottled, the wines have gained stature and flesh, though they will remain slim. read more

  • Finding value in Burgundy

  • Anyone following Hong Kong’s wine auction market would have noted in 2012 that it is Burgundy wines breaking auction records and withstanding the sluggish fine wine market following the disenchantment with Bordeaux. In the November 2012 Hospice de Beaune auction, now in its 152nd year, the average price per bottle increased by more than 50% to around 380 Euros per bottle. read more

  • Discovering Burgundy’s Latest Vintage: 2010

  •  Francois Millet, winemaker of Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé, describes 2010 as a vivacious, energetic vintage. Millet is one of the most poetic winemakers in Burgundy, describing each barrel in terms of ‘he’ or ‘she’ and explaining vintages in vivid metaphors. “The 2010 vintage gives you synergy between the vineyard, climate and the wine,” says Millet. “2009 does not have the same synergy and it was a break just as the 2011 will be a break. read more
